Something that really annoys me about US foreign policy fact that the US (among other countries) is responsible to putting saddam and Osama in power. I wouldnt be surprised if in 20 years, we had another war against the kurds in northern Iraq, whom we are giving weapons to now. If this cycle continues, the US will always have to fight against groups who they gave power to in the first place.

Thats why the U.S. should just take over the world, then we wont have to worry about who we give the power to. muhahahaha...

are you kidding me? If you are serious, you are the reason everybody hates us. The whole "im the best and I know it" mentality is utter bull****. just because we ae more powerful doesnt mean we are better. And we arent better than any other country. I would say that we do have our freedom, which is great, but along with that freedom, people are free to be stupid and ignorant, which is really a shame.

I don`t like the war either. But americans aren`t stupid. I myself, a Canadian have had the chance to meet many americans, such as yourself. But they are all pretty nice. Well.. their people, what can we expect? lol.

I have only read the first post of this thread, as it is the only one I wish to address.

I do not agree with people who say we should boycott French products, etc. I have nothing against the people of France. Those who pour old bottles of French wine in rivers, eat "Freedom" fries, and all of the rest is stupid. BUT I do think that the French position on Iraq is more of an economic position than anything else. The same goes to Russia. France and Russia have extensive financial investment in Iraq, some of which has a good chance of not standing up in a Post-Saddam Iraq.

Many people, especially those in the Middle East, dislike American foregin policy because in the past, we have kept DICTATORS and TYRANTS in power because they favor the United States. I am inclined to agree with them, we have done numerous things in the Middle East that continue to cause great suffering. But that is what I believe the governments of France and Russia are doing.

I have a hard time believing that any future diplomatic relations with Iraq would have solved anything. Saddam Hussein is not the type of person to give up power. Even if we could have disarmed Saddam Hussein, and removed him as an international threat, where would that leave the Iraqi people? Saddam Hussein's government would still have his rape teams and assassins. The people of Iraq would still be suffering under his regime.

It would be a mistake to buy into all of the U.S. propaganda, but it would not be wrong to buy into some of it. Let's face it, governments around the world will occasionaly spout bits of truth amongst the lies. Sure, the United States government wants oil. Guess what? So does every other industrialized nation on this planet. You cannot take something as complex as war, and say it's "just about" oil, or revenge.

Saddam needs to go, and I believe that this is really the only way we can achieve it. If you study history, you'll realize that the policy of appeasement does not work. This war will cost the United States a great deal of money, but do not put a price on a human being. The ends do not always jusfity the means, but I think that a world without Saddam Hussien and his oppressive regime is worth fighting for. I'm sure thousands of people suffering under his rule think so. They would be killed if they said it though.

If you think that calling them freedom fries hurts the french, youre completely wrong.
Why?
Cuz fries originate from Belgium, and the Americans have had it wrong since the beginning.
Btw, this is what the french embassy said following the stupid renaming of fries...
(Oh yes, I'm from Belgium, the country who build one of Saddams Bunkers, was anti-war, and has (according to US Newspapers) an army that sucks...)

I am going to piss off a few people and probably reinforce a few stereotypes, but just to throw it out there good and early:

The world does revolve around America.

Maybe not literally, but in pretty much every other sense. Now don't get me wrong, we're imperfect, but c'mon. Most people don't like us because of one of two reasons - 1) we're arrogant, or 2) we're allies of Israel. I become much more defensive of reason 1 than reason 2.

Give me a break. When the poop hits the fan, you can guarantee that America's phone will always be ringing. Why? Because we have the strongest, most sophisticated military on the planet. If America markets crash, world markets crash, which basically makes them the same thing. The UN is in New York for a reason - because New York is the center of the universe. Again, not literally.

Our president is called the leader of the free world because that is exactly what he is.

Manifest Destiny could never be about the great Canadien dream. Canada has a better chance at becoming a state than being taken seriously. The Canadien position doesn't surprise me, being as how it is West France.

I'm not necessarily pro-war, either. But if you open a history book, you will notice that the longer people like Saddam Hussein stay in power, the more people die and suffer. Any and all comparisons between this madman and the 43rd president of the united states, in my opinion, pretty much render someones views as worthless at best. Colin Quinn paraphrased it best when he said "evil flourishes when good men do nothing".

So no matter which country you're from, remember - be as anti-american as you like. our media loves to bring up this stuff when our initial investment pays off huge and everyone has to apologize for not seeing a good thing coming sooner.

Ok First this war can not be placed on any reason. We shall not know till long down the road when we look back what it was about or for or what the outcome was. Now to the points

-The US supported Saddam and Osama at one time (like it or not)

-France and Russia have ties to Iraq although they are secret

-The US is not perfect and it does influence the whole world economy (sad to say)

-The Iraq people have declared they want to be free (cant blame them)

-The junk about freedom fries is totally wrong, everyone had the rights to their own view.

-Appeasement shall never work, case in action Hitler, read your history!

-Both sides have people that do not know what they are talking about and people that do (personally I am not for war or against it)

- The US has supported rebel gropus for political change since somewhere after WWII when the foreign policy started getting corrupt. And sad but true often they have to tear them down after many years.

-Many other countries are just as arrogant as the US even though we are the largest.

-Many other countries have supported Saddam or Osama in one way or another.

-War is terrible and I do not stand for either I hate the war and I hate when people make us all sound arrogant, I am a US citizen can't you tell

-This war is partly on beating up the old man Bush Sr. didn't beat Saddam therefore Bush Jr. has too. I knew this was going to happen as soon as 9.11 was over because Bush had a perfect reason right there.

-Everyone is entitled to their own opinions but when there is injustice and anger raised about differing opinions or opinions stop commerce it is wrong!!

-Face it America never signed a treaty and Saddam did, the reason for this case. Also face this America thinks that they can force other countries to sign treaties they don't why?? America is the author of the UN and the gone League of Nations. Europe also agreed. America runs the UN that is why it is in New York City.

Case in action no one is totally right and everything the media says needs to be taken with a grain of salt although some truth is thrown into it amongst all lies.

-War is horrible and friendly fire is a serious problem and very disturbing although it is never uncommon in war.

-I would never put anything beyond Saddam he could have weapons then again he might not. But we know this a military regiment surrendered and another regiment fired on soldiers while they were checking up on the first regiment. The Saddam supporters acted like civilians and then opened fire on troops. The supporters acted like they were surrendering and then opened fire. This all tells you what motive they have.

-They did find a chemical plant and the missles fired at Kuwait were SCUD missiles which were banned from Iraq so so much for disarming. Also if Bush senior would have finished off what he started this would never have occured.

-For the peace makers I do not know what I raq would have done if this would have kept going and I do not want to find out. The war is justified in some cases and in others it is totally inmoral pick and choose what you want but remember there is such a thing as partial truth always remember the whole truth and picture.

OK I am done hopefully I didn't hurt anyone and If I did my sincere condolences and apologies. I do not support war because of the lose of lives, Saddam deserves justice for his life as all of us do too. He deserves acknowledgement for something and he is on the same level we all are. I do not support killing because everyone has a precious life and has feelings and emotions and the moment before dieing is horrible for everyone I dont care who! Bye and keep debating sorry for interrupting.
