layout canvas
Ok guys this may sound dumb, but anyways here goes.
What is the best canvas size for a layout which will suite a 800x600 screen rez, without activating the horizontal scroll bars? I'll accept the virtical bar though.
ps
Also looking for any good layout design ideas, help in this region appreciated (I'm not a web designer, as if you did'nt already know)

I've found about 740-750 pixels will fit horizontally in an 800x600 res.

To make a layout fit the whole screen in an 800 x 600 resolution, you need to make it 781 pixels wide. The average scrollbar size is 17 pixels in width, and when the window is maximized, add the last two pixels from the one pixel lines on each side of the window. That all adds up to 800 pixels in width. But, if you want extra space on the sides of the site, go for anywhere between 741-761. You must keep the width an odd number if you would like a pixel or line in the direct center of the site.

And uhh, your sig is pretty sweet, so just take somehting like that and make your site jsut consisting of square shapes containing images of that sort, or make the main parts of the image go all over the place. What I imagine your site being is a kind of curvy site, based on your sig. Build around that idea.

I have seen a lot of sizes mentioned, but actually...
744x410 is the safest that you can go, taking into consideration all browsers and cross platform - without a scrollbar you can go to 759
It is now considered ok to go below the fairly limiting 410px deep, but don't go higher that 744px wide if you want cross browser compatibility.
