image clarity when manipulating with php/gd

For some reason my images are not very clear when i open them with imagecreatefrompng() and output them with imagepng(). Can anyone explain this to me? The images are not clear, even when I perform no manipulations on them. Thanks in advance.

mmm... maybe is in your your code, the gd library is bad, your png plugin is old or something.

Hopefully it is that, I am going to install php 4.3 as soon as an rpm comes out. GD is now packed in the php distribution so, if the prob is my gd libs, the upgrade to 4.3 will fix it.
