Alpha Fading/Tweening

Okie......I'm having a little well a lot of trouble with the following, hope someone can help!

I'm trying to make an animation that gradually fades in (white to black) some pieces of text. What I've got so far is a graphics symbol (the text) on layer 1 in a keyframe on frame 1 with it's alpha set at 8%. Then I've got another keyframe at frame 20 with the same stuff (copy+pasted frames) but the text at alpha 100%. Then I've put a motion tween between frame 1 and 20. Unfortunately, when I go to play it, it shows briefly frame 1 with alpha at 8% and then goes to a blank screen for a few seconds (assume about 18 sec.) then shows the text at frame 20 with alpha at 100%. What have I done wrong!? I know it's not because I have too few keyframes because I've tried it using only 10 frames total and I still get the same effect. It's not working!!!

ok...this is easy...i actually feel helpful...the problem is the process you used to create the second instance of the graphic...instead of copying the instance...just add a keyframe at frame 20....then go back the first instance and change the alpha value and create the motion tween.

hope this helps
holla back
