excellent book...

Okay i've just finished reading the Macromedia Flash MX Developer's Guide... and i just had to say "2 thumbs up"... excellent resource for anyone considering getting serious with flash... its not a noob manual... but neither is it over the top... its written towards the intermediate user who wants to get some good tips... and also touches on a lot of other things that most books don't... i.e how much memory text boxes and the like will take up... typography and color theory as it relates to flash... database integration... basic backend languages as they relate to flash... and one of the best reads on javascript and actionscript i've come across to date... just thought i'd recommend it... later all...

regards,
owen Grin

I read a book called 'Flash 5 For Dummies' which goes from learning the basics of Flash to the experienced use of Flash... If anyone wants it I remember posting a topic on it under this section (Macromedia Flash) so just do a search for it on TF...

The best book i've come across relating to Flash is Actionscript: The Definitive Guide by Colin Moock, it takes you through all the elements of programming in Flash but it doesn't assume you have previous experience in programming just that you know the basics of Flash itself, it's a damn good resource if you want a good start learning actionscript. His website has a code depot so you can always go there for a downloadable example of what he is trying to get across in the book www.moock.org/asdg/codedepot

Hmmm... This book has quite a bit about stuff like that and also has top 10 FAQ's, top 10 Flash Resource websites, top 10 Best Used Flash Websites and so on...

I have that Flash 5 for Dummies book, it teaches you the basics of Flash, which I guess is good if you're a newbie, but the Tutorials that come with Flash do the same thing. I bought that book and have looked at it about three times, the Actionscript one I have is constantly here, cos I always need it for code reference. Colin Moock's book isn't for Flash newbies, you've got to know your way around flash, made a couple of movies etc

Hi all,

I'd definately recommend both:

Foundation flash 5
Foundation actionscript.

From Friendsofed. Both books are written in a very conversational manner and enjoyable to read, unlike most tech books.

Def get a thumbs up from me... Wink
