achromatic... what does my site look like on a Mac? I've really never seen. No one I know has a mac, and of course the nice new macs at the computer store have no internet connection. It works in all browsers, though I think the dhtml menu is too outdated to work in opera... but again - only on PC... I have no idea about on a mac.

Macs are preferred for graphics (photoshop type stuff, not 3d) and in the music and video production industries. They do often have a slight edge doing certain filters/etc (when comparing top of the line pcs and macs).... but in my opinion that alone is not enough to be worth the extra hundreds if not thousands of extra dollars (unless you "really" actually need that little edge). The main reasons they are preferred in those industries are:

A) they look good... you have a $10 million studio.... and this ugly beige PC sitting in the middle of it... I dont think so. Or in the case of the designer.... chances are he wants a stylish looking system to go with his decor and/or to inspire his creativity.

B) they work optimally right out of the box... no tweaking/tuning/fixing needed -- professional designers/producers/etc dont have time to screw around trying to make sure their PC works optimally. For us at home its fine and we can spend all the time in the world making our PCs perfect - but they dont have time for that. They need to dedicate all their time to their job of making excellent music/designs/video, not learning how to be a computer repair technician hehe. That's not to say macs never have problems. But the fact that you DO have LESS options in hardware and software has the benefit of making things less complicated and easier to make everything compatible.
C) Power macs are rack mountable (specialized PCs are too - but as I said, "specialized").... in other words... fits right into their rack along with their FX processors, mixers, preamps, etc.

Peace.

david your site looks fine on a mac. my mom has a pc and it looks exactly the same on her computer as on mine. however here is a screenshot of a part of robouk's site on a mac. they only thing about ie on a mac i don't like is the scrollbar feature. the colored scrollbars don't show up. i don't mean i million times better, but even if you are a unix developer, mac os x is built on unix with a built in webserver that can be used for testing. the graphics capabilities are remarkable. if you ever went around through your c:/windows folder there are about a couple hundred thousand files in there versus the mac os is smaller. read about quartz at apple.com. eidolic i didn't mean to insult you but the imac is a pretty poor machine, even the new ones. i mean they look great and everything but they are still not top of the line. now you get a new powermac g4 and thats some cool stuff to mes around with. david, there are 3d programs on macs, for instance cinema 4d xl, and alias|wavefront maya. imacs are made for little kids who cant use a computer. although i have to admit i would use a new one if i had the oppurtunity. as david said they are simple to use and straight out of the box, and if your not into deep down os modding then i would give them a shot. check out the apple retail store website to see if there are any retail stores near you and if there are go check one out and ask some questions. if you switch to mac you would probably never switch back. the only downside to switching is that you have to buy all the mac versions of the programs (or "buy" if you catch my drift Roll Eyes ).
