Coloring Background

Hi,

Im kinda having problems with coloring the background color of this picture to pure red with all these little hairs flying around. It kinds of spoils the hair if i just paint it red.
Im not sure how to do this. Is there any tuts that can help me with my problems or someone willing to help me do it.

You had made great work , but it need some more to elaborate...
I duplicated red background and placed its on top. I created mask for this layer, I filled this mask with black, then took white brush (size 20, hardness 6%) with opacity 26% and had painted over hair contour (damp color of tips of hair). Smallest tips of hair (right of photo) I removed with opacity 100%.
I made it roughly, for example.
