I joined in 2002, 6 years ago. I was 15. Became 'the' Beginner's Corner mod.. heh, some of my stickies are still up there.

Nowadays I'm doing online social network research at the University at Buffalo, been working as a web developer (PHP) for almost four years here on campus, I also do outside work.

I joined TF a long time ago, probably around 2003 or so, and pretty much sat in the photoshop help section as well as the jobs section. I really wanted to jump start a career in web design at the time.

These days, I'm less focused on that goal. At 22 years old, real life has hit me like it does most adults my age. Working to pay the bills sucks, but at least I've found a job I'm happy with. I work for a company called DevStudios, and I provide tech support to a number of Pizza companies and Bars, mainly in Ohio. Basically, I talk to managers all day, helping them if they have problems with their POS systems.

I now know how to code in Linux, and I'm also really learning a lot about SQL databases.

It's funny. I always figured I'd be in a web design job by now, in fact, I knew I wanted to do web design more than anything else in computers, because of the computer programming class I took in high school. Most boring class ever. It was easy, but I hated it. And now, I'm pretty much in a coding environment hahaha.

I'm ready to get back into design, but that means I've gotta learn new things, and as much as I'd like to do that, I really don't have the time. I thought about getting a $20k loan and going to college to learn, that would allow me to devote time to it, but, $20k in the hole is not good. I think some online college courses are good for me now, and when I've got enough saved up, I can quit my job, or work nights instead, and hit the books.

I've heard people are self taught, and what I know about design is pretty much self taught, but to actually be successful, self teaching is not useful, because you don't have that piece of paper saying you know wtf ur talking about, and college will make you focus on things, instead of working at your own, lazy, procrastinative pace...
