best IRC client for Mac (Radley?)

I'm trying to figure out what IRC client to use for my Mac... I downloaded Colloquy but am having one hell of a time joining rooms with it!

If anyone can suggest a better app or help me with Colloquy... I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks

I just tried Colloquy for the first time the other day... it's been a while since I used X-Chat Aqua, so I can't really honestly compare (and as you know, I'm a never-ending-noob when it comes to IRC haha). Colloquy was definitely nice though - the interface was a lot simpler and more "mac like", not that I really had any complaints about X-Chat.

So far as connecting... it just worked for me. I connected to irc.freenode.net and joined a few Drupal support channels. I believe there's a Join Room button. It also "held my hand" with doing the user name identify thing I can never quite remember the command for haha Wink Overall I was really pleased with Colloquy... it just about felt as easy as using iChat or Adium, etc, and I'd never had such an easy time with IRC before (which was good, since I was in a rush to get the answer to a question in time to present a then-broken site feature to the board/directors of the organization the site was for haha). Still not finished, but if you're interested: http://av.absolutecross.com

Anyhow let me know if you're still stuck on connecting and I'll be happy to try helping more.

Colloquy works fine for me. o.O Besides X-Chat Aqua, the only other option I know of is Snak, and it's retarded.

Do you think the problem is on my end, because I'm behind a router / using wireless?

It sounds like it... like I said, it was shockingly easy for me, so I'm sure it should be even easier for you - so I'm pretty sure there's a technical problem somewhere along the line. Try plugging in to the network directly, or testing out in an alternate connection (e.g. friend's house, cafe, etc).

I'll have to try that, but at the moment I'm running XChat on my PC no problem... So it must be something with my wireless connection.

Thanks everyone. Cool

I don't use IRC much anymore, but when I do it's in Colloquy. I actually prefer Linkinus, which is an app that I hadn't heard about until browsing through MacUpdate. It costs $20 and I don't use IRC enough to justify purchasing a client, but if you use IRC a lot then I would definitely recommend buying it.

Linkinus looks and feels very much like an Apple application, resulting in a more intuitive interface compared to Colloquy. One thing that bothers me with Colloquy is the separate window for connections; it would always seem to get lost in the background and going back and forth between the floating window and the main chat window is frustrating. This is a minor difference, but it's these things that make an application feel right or wrong. I recommend you download the trial and test it out on your own.
