i'm just confused about the tutorial, what photoshop version you are using? i can't find layer -> type - > render layer

i'm using CS2

Looking at the tutorial, looks like you need to rasterize the type. (Looks like this tutorial needs a little update ). Either do a Layer > Rasterize > Type or right-click the layer and click Rasterize Type

ok then, i'm using rasterize type now, but still confused about step 2, it says, create new channel and then make the channel color = white (what selection??) i'm using paint bucket to paint the channel to white, then trying to apply the gaussian blur doesn't happen anything (the layer selection is on channel, and on the new channel) anyone have successfully apply this tutorial in CS2? any help is appreciated

Well, looks like what you didn't do is CTRL+click the type-layer to make a selection marquee around it.
In older versions of Photoshop, you ctrl+clicked the layer, but in CS2, you have to ctrl+click the layer's thumbnail/icon.

btw, before that, i'm using magic wand to make a selection on my font hehe

no problem.

btw, when it says to fill (like with a paintbucket, etc), you can just press alt+backspace. It'll fill the selection with your foreground color.

Challenge with Highlighted Chrome Tutorial

G'day Guys,

Firstly I want to say thanks for posting so much cool stuff on the web. I am not a graphic designer but who needs to be these days with such excellent forums and tutorials?

I have been giving the Highlighted Chrome Tutorial a go and I am not having much success.

After creating the type, and then creating an additional channel and gaussian blurring the contents of this channel I get stuck. I get stuck right at the bit where I click back on the original layer, because all of the efforts I have made with the channel are not visible. Instead of seeing some "cool" text all I see is what I started off with.

Does this have something to do with Channel settings? Basically Photoshop is treating the channels and layers as distinct entities and displaying these seperately instead of showing a merged image that looks cool.

Could this have something to do with the fact that I am using Photoshop version 6.0.1? I know that I was not in a position to follow all of the instruction "Layer > Type > Render Layer." instead I had to resort to Rastersizing.

Any help that you can provide on this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi! Found this great tutorial, but Im stuck just as Dudestar is above me.

Would love to learn new type techniques like this, but totally stuck. Im running PS:CS

Hello everyone!...at least I'm not the only one with problems following the step: "Layer » Rasterize » Type". I'm working on vista with CS2 and CS3 but I coudn't follow it.
Please, anyone who can help us?
