If you get a macbook make sure it is a pro cause my brother works for Flextronics where they fix a lot of macbooks and they put shitty parts back into them. He says the best parts go to the pros.

Its just like with xbox 360s...now that the Elite is out...the best part goes to them. Its like that everywhere. Top of the line gets the best ****.

My friend has an HP Pavillion but Vista is mleh.. get at least 2 gigs of ram I say.
My friend has a Satellite and the battery is crappy, he doesn't like Vista so he runs Ubuntu.

OSX is fun! Get a Macbook Pro!

I suppose I should be more specific - LexMedia Computer Group Inc. is like the Best Buy with better pricing, better service, and better support. Student owned and operated, LexMedia doesn't focus on the dollar, but rather on the customer.

Im thinking about going with a macbook pro, but I cant seem to dodge the feeling that I could get the same ammount of laptop from hp or dell.

You probably could (or hardware-wise, maybe more)... you really need to make the decision based on the OS when it comes down to it (and the 3rd party apps - which are spectacular on OS X). Personally I can't go back to windows (I have to use it constantly at my IT job of course though). If I were to buy a PC at this point instead of my Mac... it would run Linux. Right now I have all 3 on my MBP - main system is OS X, and have XP and Linux in VMware Fusion for browser testing. If I feel the need to play a high-end game, I use my brother's PS3.

I have a acer ferrari and I am unhappy with it's linux capabilities, very buggy vendor drivers and you have to use ndiswrapper to get the broadcom wifi running.

I second daves suggestion on deciding OS, unfortunately linux WIFI support isn't so great yet, although they are working on it. If you are going to choose to run windows, man, just get a nice looking monitor with a keyboard that feels okay to you, underneath it's all the same. Doubt you will need to spend 2000-2500.
