advanced cutout filter / vector portraits
today i checked out different approaches to get an adequate result in creating vector portraits.
after trying to re-create images by simply re-drawing it with the pen tool it turned out to be very time consuming, so i took a different path:
i applied the ps-intern cutout filter (8 levels) to the image, selected every generated color level, smoothed it, expanded it a bit, filled it with the picked color and so i finally put together the image with some sort of selfmade cutout filter, without disturbing jaggy edges.
...more or less a combination of the ps cutout filter, vector-portraits and some other filters.
i was ready to yawn..
then i found a site that provides afilter that modifies the image with a selfmade threshold filter.. which was not very helpful, because it was not very "selective". hit delete.
to make a long story short: with an advanced coutout-procedure this vector-portrait-thing would be a lot easier, unfortunately i was not able to google anything like that so far.
what i´d like to find is a little tutorial that leads me to a perfect cutout-filter, which does not reveal its ps-origins after 2 secs, but saves time as well.
ideas? links? willing to share past experience?
