Brush Outline Error

When i select the brush tool and go to paint an img instead of the outline of what the brush would look like before you paint it gives me a giant cross... any ideas why this is happening? it keeps occuring and is getting very annoying as i cant physically tell how big the brush is going to be =/ well thanks!

Go into Photoshop's preferences and make sure the cursor/pointer for the brush is NOT set to precision.

aspinn, Photoshop does that when your brush is set too big for the screen. Try zooming out or making your brush size smaller.
