Linux Question Please
Help me do this or point me to a good resource? Quick google hasn't directly answered me.
Have three user accounts on a linux server, SuSE enterprise something. They want all three of them to have the same directory /srv/ftp/public be their default directory when they ftp in. Two of them have rw access, one have r only.
I've got the users made but I'm having issues bc I thought that the home directory had to be unique per user. I remember something about groups but I'm confused and aggravated.
ty in advance. I'll ship homemade cookies of choice to the person that helps me fix this thing. (That means you supply me your address, but that's all on you. I can't make peanut butter as I'm allergic to peanuts but any nutfree variety is all yours)

Those settings are made on a per user basis in whatever ftp daemon you're using. This FTP home directory is completely unrelated to the /home/username directory, which DOES have to be unique.
You'd set the 'default' directory per user in the ftp daemon only if you want to implement access control. Otherwise, you can just have the user set in their FTP settings to navigate to that directory on-connect.
Also, user accounts in FTP don't have to be the same as the server user accounts, though often they are linked.
