Windows XP Wallpaper folder

I want to be able to change my wallpaper through the display properties dialog...
So I changed the registry value for WallPaperDir to the folder where I have all my wallpapers.

BUT they won't show up in the display properties dialog... Unless I convert them to bmp. Which is a pain and gobbles up disk space for no reason.

Why won't it see JPG or PNG files?

:-\ No clue. Can you 'Browse' to the folder and still see them from inside display properties? Not as easy, but I think it remembers the folder automatically ..
