Long road to learning Illustrator

I'm just so sick of being on a short leash with Photoshop. Not being able to do anything more than simple gradients. For years I've been trying to achieve the gradient mesh look in Photoshop without any luck. Closest I've come is this. http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/49925004/
Using a variety of stroke shape burst gradients and clipping masks it's taking longer than it should.

So I'm going to bite the bullet and learn to use Illustrator. I hate learning something new when it takes a long time. Especially since it took over 4 years for me to learn what I know in Photoshop. It ain't much I tell you.

I hope I just don't give up(I do that alot I have lots of unfinished works).
I hate Photoshop and it's choke hold it has on me.

Oh yeah. Hi. Haven't seen you all in a while. Cheesy

Yeah, Inkscape is pretty ace. They have some excellent interactive tutorials included in the program, too.
