How to reduce an image to a certain number of colors?

I can't seem to figure out how to take any image and reduce all colors to a limited color scheme (in my case, of 5 colors)

Does anyone know how? Thanks

Cheater's way is Image -> Adjustments -> Posterize

Seems like there should be some other way through Image -> Mode -> Index.. but I couldn't quite figure that out.
