The problem is its a 2G phone. Unless apple scrambles out a 3G model for international release im still not interested.

Wait till 2008, when it hits Asia (Japan, Hong Kong), where I presume, UMTS and EVDO are the rule in those places.

Still too expensive for me, though. I would really like one simply minus the phone.

Well, I forget where it was said, but they were asking questions about the widescreen interface coming to just the iPod and the reply was something to the nature of this is a 'test run' to see how it picks up. I personally would love wide screen 3.5" for viewing video over the current 2.5"

They're already working on Rev. B of the iPhone, so I wouldn't leave it out of the question. I never buy Rev. A products anyways, especially from Apple. I got so boned with the 1G iPod 5GB when I think back on it.

I dig it... I'll definitely consider buying one once I can get a closer look in person. I'm not too keen on switching to Cingular - I'm guessing it will be open to others later, though probably not for a long time (I currently have Verizon... price is high, but I never lose reception). I'm in the market for a new iPod in the near future (have and older 20gb one now), and have been getting into time management and productivity so I've been thinking about getting a smart phone - would be nice to have them all in one, and especially nice if it all flows seamlessly with my Mac. Hopefully later versions of the iPhone will be able to cram in hard drive based storage (e.g. at least 40GB or so).

By the way... as a custom-PC-building enthusiast (aka 'geek'), I was a premium-level Mac hater for most of my life. Elitist Mac users (which are finally less common now, I'd say) reinforced my negative opinions. I was forced to use Macs when I went to music school and it didn't take long... I used OS X, intuitive and powerful applications, etc, and it won me over. The higher price nagged at me until I looked back realistically at how much money I had poured into building "the perfect PCs" over the years. I guess you just have to use a Mac yourself to understand. Now that I have my own Mac on which I can install or tweak anything I want, there's been no end to the supply of "I can't believe I went without this for so long" new ways of working, terrificly useful and usable programs, etc. I dunno - just saying... give it a chance Grin

Haha - well as they say... to each his own. Personally I'm kicking myself for not getting a Mac several years ago... would have (for me at least) got a vast amount more "done" than I did. Perhaps I just have a few extra ounces of disgust for Windows at this point, having loaded and tweaked into proper behavior 2000 and XP and all the requisite software, literally in the high hundreds of times in my IT job. I have it down to an art form I think Wink My Mac has just worked perfect since I turned it on the first time, and it's always easy to change just about anything I want on it.

Anyhow haha sorry - no more Mac talk..... iPhone!!! Grin

Well, if Apple is planning to have iPhone in Asia by 2008, that is predominately CDMA, not GSM. So it'd be a good bet they'd make the phone CDMA which can work on Verizon or Sprint, assuming they don't make a CDMA version for over here also.

Personally, I'm patiently and intently waiting to see what RIM, Sony E., et al. can pull out of their sleeves with so much pressure now on them.

Just watched a videocast on TWiT of an interview at Macworld with OmniGroup... their upcoming OmniFocus GTD app has caught my eye (I've currently just began using kinkless kGTD with OmniOutliner Pro, which is a nice but not-quite-perfect solution). Though anyhow, they said that if Apple allows developers access to write programs for the iPhone, they are planning to offer an iPhone version of OmniFocus. Either way, they plan on offering something - if not an iPhone application, at least an OmniFocus web application, since the iPhone "does" have Safari running on it. Personally I really hope Apple lets developers offer iPhone applications... they're apparently worried about it breaking the "iPhone experience" I guess, but at least for OS X, innovative non-Apple apps are one of the best parts - harnessing and customizing the power of the OS in ways Apple didn't.

On another note, I saw a video yesterday on CNET about Synaptics iPhone-like touch screen technology that could be used in iPhone competitors.
