I wonder how many Mactards are going to think that this is a new revolutionary idea from Apple?

I guess they bought the rights to the name iPhone, seeing as it already exists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_(Linksys). I read that they were going to call it the iPod Phone, but I guess they decided not to (good move).

Around June, I'd say. That's when it's going to be released.

I'll be the first. How many cell phones have you used where the interface is up to Apple standards? The problems are the price ($500/$600) and the lock-in (Cingular only).

The price is the problem? lol, ok.

Motorola Q: $469.99 (With no service contract)
Treo 700p: $499.99 (With no service contract)
Cingular 8525: $549 (With no service contract)
Samsung Blackjack: $449 (With no service contract)
Palm Treo 750: $649 (With no service contract)

So honestly, how is Apple's $500/$600 for a 4GB ($500) or $600 (8GB) iPod + Phone + Internet phone so outrageous? That is 'retail' price, we don't know the sort of deals and rebates. It happens all the time with new technology, those are the price 'after' service contract discount, but there's always some sort of mail-in or special in-store discounts, just depends where you go. I think for the features and so forth, it's worth it's price point all the way.

As for the lock-in, who was surprised by that in this country? So I don't see what all the problem is with that, do you?

So in the end, I don't think either is such a big problem when you consider how cell phones are over here and the similar price points of even less-capable devices that are as expensive or more.

Samurai, it does revolutionize cell phones. Maybe you should play with one when it gets out, as the interface and features are a DREAM, and if you can get Skype on there (which I am almost sure we'll see some sort of geek project towards getting that on there), then with the Wifi and bluetooth capability, you'll see free VoIP phone use from it. So yeah, it kicks *** Wink
