can't use some filters in photoshop

I've been trying to figure this out for a while. This might be stupid but in most of these tutorials it says to go to filters>distort and do something but I cant click the selections in distort. the button for the selections in distort are all grey except one.

You might be in a different mode. Switch to RGB (Image -> Mode -> RGB). If that doesn't fix it then something could have gone wrong with installing Photoshop, try reinstalling it.
