Google Domains -- CON!!
Last night, I decided to use Google Apps for Your Domain (http://www.google.com/a/) to check to see if the domain i was intrested in was availible (themungo.com). It was. So i sorted out some hosting for myself earlier and went back to register the domain and guess what... IT HAS MAGICALLY BEEN REGISTERED!!
I think i might write to Google about this... What do you reckon? (i didnt search for the domain with anyone else before anyone asks (maybe the problem lies with eNom?, although i've used them before without problems...)).

Yeh I would of, the only reason i didnt was because my wallet was in the car. I think the domain was registered within ~20 or some minutes after my search from what i can work out. I dont think it was a coincidence.

I vaguely recall reading something about how Whois searches are performed on different registrar databases or something, and if one of the registrars is monitoring these searches then they can hijack the domain. Google doesn't turn up anything explaining this, but it does how a lot of people in similar situations. It looks like it's a pretty common occurance.

I've had two domains taken in front of my nose in this kind of way previously, and even though smart asses like Jason1234567 always will point out that one should always have dadys CC ready for "pruchez", that's not always the case. Sometimes you think of a domain in a rather spontaneous way and by habit go to check if it's taken. After that it's usually too late if bad luck happened to show it's ugly face that day.

As of now, MONIKER ONLINE SERVICES, INC. (http://www.moniker.com) own that domain name. Why don't you contact them instead of Google?
