PHP, is 5 more secure than 4?
Hi guys,
*dusts off cobwebs*
I've got to start writing a CMS system for my new company. I was wondering if I should be upgrading the server to use PHP5 before I start out (purely on the grounds of security)
On a side-note..
I am a PHP fan, but prepared to look at other languages to code the system. I've looked at Python and Ruby but haven't taken the time to learn either. I always get stuck thinking that if I can solve my problem using PHP, why bother learning other languages (as time is money after all.) Is there anything inherently wrong with my thinking? Should I be using a different language to code my CMS?
Cheers guys and girls

The difference between PHP 4 and 5 concerning security is nonexistant, it depends mostly how you code your own stuff, for example, how you handle input data from a form to a database, which is the most common case for SQL injection. Actually the PHP guys, are still doing security updates with version 4, because most of the web servers still use it.
Concerning your other question, it's always good to learn new languages, but if you really need to solve something in a short time span and you can have the solution done with PHP, then there's nothing wrong with your thinking.

If only for xml support (assuming you actually use XML stuff of course)
