Rofl, this guy...

Personally I say, say what you want to say. Whatever makes you sleep, just don't shove anything down anyones throats. You can't make someone believe what you can, you can make them say the sky is green all day long, but that doesn't make them believe it. Personally when I was working for a large chain based retail company, I always said "Happy Holidays". Reason being, because I didn't want to update my saying after every holiday had passed, and an added benefit is avoiding some opinionated loudmouth giving me a lecture on what I should and should not say (talking about a customer, if you've worked retail, you know exactly what I mean).

This is actually debate worthy material?

I say Merry Christmas even if I'm discouraged. Happy Holidays is too P.C. for me.

I say joyous Quanza.

No, it's like rider said. The entire month of December has somehow become "Christmas". And that is, as I see it, the issue. There are other holidays (hence "happy holidays") within this month. Quanza being one, Hanukkah, New Years Eve, Winter Solstice, Bodhi Day, Zarathosht Diso, etc. To say "Merry Chirstmas" every day after Thankgiving is very ethnocentric.

if you don't like it, leave.

that's like not being able to say happy easter. Easter is a national holiday. Or happy columbus day, another national holiday.

if its a national holiday, i'm saying happy ____.

now if i were in siberia or something and they don't have christmas, then its different, then i could be breaking their law. but its not, its america, where we like christmas.

So there.

Siberia? Breaking their law?

Maybe you should try getting some history lessons on christmas. It is historically not an american tradition in any way. Your country did however do a great job in commersializing it.

Yeah, you certainly don't want to break the Siberian Law.

I don't mind "happy holidays." I'm not going to enjoy the holidays any less.

And "happy holidays" sounds more happy.

I'm told to say Happy Holidays at work, but I say Merry Christmas. They don't pay me enough to make the change.

I'm gonna ask what I'm allowed/not allowed to say next time I work...
I work at The Gap (in Canada) btw. For like 2 weeks now...

If they make it a national holiday then we should be allowed to say it, shouldn't we?
I mean... The government considers the 25th of December as being "Christmas" not "Holiday"...
