best shopping cart?

Hi, i was wondering what you guys think is a good customizable, shopping cart system that i should use if i were to open an online store. Also whatever you guys could tell me about opening an online store in general would help a lot also, like how hard is it to integrate design into cart, setting it up, etc etc?

Ive been lookin around and i seem to like j-shop (www.jshop.co.uk). It seems good since it is fully customizable, and also i dont really have much knowledge in php to work on oscommerce. I'm also gonna be using this for various clients perhaps, so i would be getting the developer's liscense. Has anyone heard about this cart or know anything that could help me in this situation cause it is quite expensive (approx. $1,150 for a developer's liscense). Under the store showoff it seems that a lot of the sites arent up to par with today's web standards (designwise), so im a little hesitant to spend money on this product until i know it has the potential to produce killer sites and easily used.
