HTML Form File Field path to php?

I'm just wondering if there is a way to pass a users local file path, which they've entered into a HTML form file field, to php.

The reason being, is that if they entered in something wrong in the form, php will report the error they made and then echo in all the data they've entered thus far into the form. Yes, yes, you can use the back button, but my clients need a system that is beyond dummy-proof.

Thanks,
-Nick

Edit:
Sorry if this is in the wrong section...

i'm just trying to understand this right...

you have an html form, and you want to have a field in which the user enters their local file path?

it would just be $_POST['localpath'] (or whatever you decide to name the field), just like any of the other fields.
