Setting up a lan fileserv

Hello guys, i'm just a bit curious on how to setup a fileserv on a lan. A few buddies of mine that go to college with me are planning on getting a house and with all of the stuff we have, I want to setup a fileserv for the house on its lan.

Just curious if there is a good FAQ online somewhere(Tried google with shitty results) or if someone can give me a general overlay of what I'll need and what I'll have to do.

All I can contribute is that my dad set one up using Debian Linux.
I'll ask him about it tonight if you want.

A program called filesync I belive is what you need. It will update a folder on a seperate machine when you add items to a selected folder on yuour machine. Many other methods aswell. If im not mistaken this is an XP powertoy.

Alright cool. I did find some stuff about using windows server 2003 also. I'll look into that and see if anything else pops up here.
