help on a tutorial PLEASE

hy, im following this tut on AC: http://www.absolutecross.com/tutorials/photoshop/basics/dashes/
step one is understandable but step 2... how do you "draw a 1-pixel selection line on your image"? also, should you deselect the first layer before drawing the 1-pixel line?

The tutorial is poorly worded. Step 1 and the first sentence of step 2 get you to the point of creating the pattern. After creating the pattern, go to a document, or create a new one that you want to apply it to. Then you can proceed with the Single Row Marquee, fill, etc.

Thanks for bringing this up guys. You're quite right, it wasn't clear that you were supposed to create a new file or apply the pattern to a pre-existing graphic. I have now updated the tutorial and hopefully improved it haha Grin

I decided to do away completely with the suggestion of the Single Row Marquee Tool, since it just adds extra confusion without much real benefit (it's nice if you want to quickly ensure that your line is only 1px thick without having to zoom in to be certain, but again, unnecessary). I decided to recommend the Rectangular Marquee Tool now, since it adds the ability to easily make your line as thick as you want, and also mentioned the possibility of filling various shapes with your pattern instead of just lines.

Hope this helps, and again thanks for the feedback Smile
