Saving GIFS!
I have recently started spriteing and every time I go to save somethign transparent, wether its a sprite or not, all this white crap is placed around the image.
I go to "save for web" and original it looks fine. But for some reason on optimized it shows hte white crap. It does this every time I try to save it this way. Let me show an example of what I mean.

Like I said before, the white stuff is added after it is saved. It's not on it when I am working on it in photoshop.

that's normal. thou gifs can be transparent in display they truely have a background.
this is cut out of something.
whats happened here is the image, which isnt cut/cleaned properly still has the residue of the original, so you just need to remove it. Select the object, feather 1 pixel, invert so the feathering is now inside the image and then hit delete or use the eraser.
hope that helps you out.

If you use your gifs on a specific background you could also set "matte" to the color of that background. The "white stuff" surrounding your image will the be the color of the selected "matte". You can also set the matte to "None" this might also rid you of the problem..
Let me know if this helped you!
