Just 10 years and we could be seeing one of these. So exciting.

Best stay on topic or someone will close this thread too.

I have read many sci-fi books and recall this idea but its just a waste of money and resources. A hurrican or tornado would take it down in no time flat. With Nature/Weather going kookoo now we have no idea what the future will bring. It just appears to be getting worse. And the more they go into space the bigger the ozone hole gets. Gees I could find better things to do with those millions. Couldnt you?

Actually - If America does it, it will cost the American Tax Payer. So it is your money.

What if we, say put it off the coast of oh say Cali, quite easy to compensate for earthquakes, and tsunamis are quite rare over there. I don't think it would be hard to compensate for a tsunami either.

We spend a lot more money on far dumber things with far bigger risks. This could actually be quite "revolutionary" for getting into space, so IMO well worth the risk.

I haven't heard this before, actually kind of interested to see this one explained out. By that I mean how a space elevator would cause holes in the ozone.

Considering: all the advancements, science, technology, entertainment, massive space market growth, what this could do for the world, and what millions haven?t already fixed (yet have tried)... no. Five billion isn?t that much anyway, a Nimitz class aircraft carrier cost about 4.5 billion and the US has 10.

I'm a bit biased though, the thought of space travel and space it's self fascinate me, and I (within reason) support anything that?s going to bring us closer to the stars.

Maybe, but it would pay it?s self off in a few years. Personally I?d like to see the private sector do this.
