Music Cleaning/ Renaming.

Pre-formulated greetings,

Over the past few years, I've 'aquired' a fairly large amount of music, and have been keeping the music in an organised filing system of the computer, taking the time to rename all the music to what it should actually be, adding tag information and whatnot.

The way I was storing it was in a folder called 'Music', then inside that have a folder for each album, so it'd be something along the lines of: Music/Club Rotation Volume 34/All of the song in the album inside the album folder.mp3.

However, as of recent developments with hard drives and flames, all my music had gone. But, thankfully, I still had it on my iPod.

To cut a long explanation short, my computer can't transfer music from my iPod back to the computer, my friend kindly offered to do it.

Upon inserting the DVDs into the computer, I saw that the program had 'conveniently' ripped the tracks off and stored them as Artist/Album/Song. Becuase I listen to techno, and basically just 'get' compilations by a large amount of different artists, and most of the artists only have 1 or 2 songs, there's an assload of folders with a minimal amount of music in each.

I'm wanting to restore the storage system I once had, and was wondering whether anybody could recommend a program which could aid me in doing this.

Cheers,

- Moe

I don't know about your techno dilemma though.

I know exqactly what you're talking about. When I got the Dieselboy CD Dungeonmaster's guide, my computer automatically put it Artist/Album/Song, which sucked because like you said, out of 20 something songs, there are like 20 different artsists even though it's on the same album. I never did get that fixed. To this day, that's the CD that pisses me off the most because in my 2000 something song playlist, there's all these odd artsists floating around in there.

I would check out the MusicBrainz Tagger. It will tag and rename your files, as well as build your directories in any way, shape, or form that you would like.

I've been using it for over a year now, and I will probably never use anything else. Geek

I like Mp3tag for doing albums.

MusicBrainz for a bunch of individual songs
