Background Colour on Icons
[Sorry if this is the wrong section for this post.]
Okay, this is driving me totally crazy. I installed Blackbox (bblean) a while back and uninstalled it because everytime I switched back to Explorer, it looked super weird. Later on I installed Window Blinds and uninstalled this because it was just acting up.
Somewhere in the midst of all of this, my icons sprouted white backgrounds. (Attached)
I've seen this before on my older computer. I've been trying to ignore it, but it's just kind of driving me crazy. I know this problem is mediocre, but is there any way around it?

I think Tweak UI can fix that, but I'm not 100% certain... This happened to me more than a few times when I used Windows, but I can't remember exactly how I fixed it.

its because you using a PNG file as wallpaper, instead of a JPEG or BMP.
PNG are better for sending wallpapers across the internet, but to use with XP its better to use a high quality JPEG, if you dont have photoshop, just use BMP.
will fix your background problem.

Err? how do you figure that out? I see a screenshot as a .png, nothing has been said about the actual background.
Besides, it's the background of the icons that is the problem, I know there's an option in XP somewhere.
I'm thinking Control Panel-> System -> Advanced tab -> Performance Settings -> Visual Effects Tab.
If not, there's always the Repair (rebuild icons) option in TweakUI, as has been mentioned by sykil.

1) This is the Tech forum, which is used for sorting out problems and such
2) The OP cares as they posted a topic to try and find a fix for it.
But, honestly, this thread didnt need a reply like yours, and small graphical niggles DO get really annoying.
PS. I dont care about your Starcraft thread, yet I havnt stated my opinions saying I dont care in your thread effectively highjacking it, at least try and be considerate to others.
On that note, had any luck yet Iarkalwen?

ok, i know the screen is a PNG, but the wallpaper also is,
just try the difference on your windows machine, if you use a PNG wallpaper, the icons will not be transparent, if you use a JPEG or BMP, the icons will have a transparent section.
you can change it in options or whatever, but using a JPEG as background will work, trust me.
what have you got to loose.

I have tried, and guess what? My icons are just dandy with a png background.
Which is the point I'm getting at, it's not the wallpaper per se, it's to do with the transparency of the icons, which is another function.
Still, another possibility eliminated.
And, even though you say you know the background is a .png, you're assuming, as even IF the original was supplied as a .png, the format could have been changed anyway.

when i go right click> arrange icons by> 'lock web items on desktop' it puts the background on.
not sure if that's what's causing it though.
