america bombs evenmore countless countries, and the world gets consumed by carbondioxide, we live in a deforested, dry, desertified, hell hole, only totalitarian govenrments exist and all technology is controlled by the state.

...because his term isnt up yet.......but look on the bright side, this IS his final and last term, I just hope he doesnt do anything else to give himself a lasting legacy. And the debate whether the USA is a good country is something I cant be bothered to go into.

As an American it's sad to say that I wish I lived in Canada. I don't mean this in a negative way towards Canada but I feel that Canadians are much happier people then Americans and it's because of the way things are run there.

O RLY? Well my cousin(canadian)'s gang leader chopped someone up with a machete in Canada. Happier people? Everyone has different opinions, likes, dislikes, everyone has problems. U ever been to Canada? Reminds me of just another big city such as NY or LA.

So, no-one else has any views on how far or which direction technology will go in then?

If you're going to theorize about something like this, then you have to take in consideration the Earth's lifespan. How much longer do you think Earth will hold up? It's already on the decline, and even if the entire world changes their habits to create a cleaner planet, its resources are still being used up. There's no real way for Humans to put back what they've taken. And also, is the development of technology exponential? In terms of progress...let's say we have this cell phone. It's really special for some reason. Then all of the other cell phone manufacturers implement that technology into their phones and either improve on it or leave it how it is. Let's say they all come up with new technologies, using the previous technology as a jumping off point. Then they all implement the others' technologies, and the cycle repeats itself. It's not always a rapid process, but it does take place. For example, automobiles. Ford first used the assembly line to produce cars, and now it's a standard. Other companies are now using mechanical devices instead of manpower to assemble autos. Some have improved on another company's mechanical tool design and implemented that. It's so hard for me to give an absolute end for technology as a whole. It's even tough to come up with a relative terminus.
You have to think, what actually qualifies as "technology"? Most dictionaries agree that technology is a form of applied science. If it can't be applied in a useful way to produce something, be it tactile (as in a consumer good) or abstract (as in knowledge only), then it can't be considered technology. No one said it had to be produced by someone, just that it had to exist. So, this being said, could Human evolution* be considered technology, since we can use new abilities we gain through evolution to produce either tactile or abstract items?
*NOTE: Keep in mind that once Humans evolve past a certain point, they can't be called Humans anymore. I'm using the term pretty loosely since I can't come up with a name for something so uncertain that may or may not exist in the future.

Why can't humans be called humans if we keep evolving?
I mean if we don't leave an extra species behind I see no reason why the name should be left behind.
And really with the way the world is now (connected, fast global transportation, medicine) no directional evolution or natural selection is taking place.
What we are seeing is the beginning of our transcendence of biological evolution. Slowly humans have eroded away natural selection until it is almost non-existent now, and soon the trend will accelerate with new technologies. We won't biologically evolve; we'll evolve by our own means. We'll upgrade ourselves into new life forms eventually, but first we'll simply upgrade our parts and remove or block unwanted biological actions.
Something else I can see is virtual reality devices.
There are two types, tactile and cerebral.
The first is a stimulation of the senses directly. VR goggles stimulate the eyes; VR gloves the hands, etc.
Currently that is really all we have, the eyes receive output (head movement provides auxiliary input), and the hands provide input to the virtual reality. Eventually all the senses, and other external inputs and outputs will be accounted for and interfaced to the virtual reality. This leads to the image of a full body suit (and really also a shell/contraption for movement), which can simulate the feel of sun, wind, rain and heat on the skin, as well as providing smell, taste, sound and vision, and measuring all outputs such as sweat, movement etc.
However this will all quickly become obsolete with the advent of cerebral VR, where the Virtual reality is hooked directly to the nervous system to emulate all experiences neurologically. This will increase realism and provide a much wider range of experiences (and would be cheaper).
I'm quit certain that at some point we'll become at least somewhat cyborg. People already have all sorts of electronic implants for medical reasons.
