torrents search website

Anyone know how torrents search websites operate? I'm thinking of maybe making one and woundered how to make one or where to start. I want to do one like torrentz where it searches other torrentz sites.

The general forumula I beleive is to spider known torrent sites for torrent files then emulate a torrent client, parse the announce list and gather information about the health of the particular swarm.

I've been developing one, but I'm lacking a good server to continue development. Basically, you need to crawl for torrents, validate them, and index them for searching. There is also a need for a filtering process to remove dead torrents. Most current guys don't take that extra step to prevent from not being able to boast big torrent counts.

The hard part is crawling though. You can create specialized code to grab torrents from each site. Or you can create an automated spider that runs through all sites and recognizes a torrent without giving it individual attention.

Keeping stats up-to-date is annoying, but necessary. Trackers are usually incompatible to an extent and unreliable.
