Rough Price

Hi, i wanted to know if anyone could tell me on average how much it would cost to get somthing coded, somthing of the standard of Gamespot.com or IGN.com.
this includes the Custom forums script, the admin system, ratings system, layout coding, css, ect, everything they offer.

Im currently setting up my own gaming website and have found somone on another forum to design a layout for free, but im told for a good php cript it will need to have money involved.

So id like to know how mcuh money needs to be involved for somthing of this standard and scale.

Please take into account, im making this website to begin with as a hobby, i hope to make money from it in the future so it can run itself and pay for the server ect, but for now any cost comes out of my pocket.

-thanks,

Something like that is about 2.5K$ to 10K$.

I'd say even more than that. If everything is custom... you may be going into a sixth figure.

actually id suggest the exact opposite in this case. There is no way that an individual should code something as large as a system like those.

A very intresting thread.

I think you could learn enough php to do the majority of what you want within say two weeks.

Think of it as an evolution, rather than building one large block, and you are starting small.

Custom forums script
the admin system
ratings system

The design/etc is not of intrest to me, but for talking sake, how about expanding and detailing the features required for the above three.

Thanks for the support dibby, i know almost nothing about php now, well i guess i know the simple stuff, and i know about computer/internet languages and allot of script languages have the same prinsiples ect from what iv seen...

Well as for expanding the details of tho's 3 parts of the script.

Custom forums script - This script i will need to create from scratch, it wont be anything special as i dont need anything special, just a users database, profile section (same profile as viewable in the main site as it is all intergrated smoothly), then simple abuilitys to post, edit, delete ect.
the admin system of the forums will be the hard bit for me, admins need to be able to add forum sections, sub forums, and have hte power to delete anything ect.
So basicly like a cut down version of these neverside forums, altho id like to build onto it as i progress, adding new features ect...

The admin system - The admin system i make will need to include, member groups, news post, and the abuility to link with the big database of games, so once a new game comes out an admin can log on, click a link on the submenu, and enter the games name, a short description, select from a list of previously added developers or add a new developer and any other info, once clicking complete the admin system will need to automaticly create the games section along with its own image gallery and downloads gallery. This is all that is needed to begin with, but in the future id like to build on it as i learn more.

And the ratings system i belive would be the simplest. It would just be a ystem were members can rate games by entering the games section and adding a rating, then the top rated games will be displayed on the main page (top 10 ect)
This system may progress to allow users to post reviews of games ect.

there are many more things id love to do, but i guess these are the main things to get me going.
I Guess i should begin to learn php and mySQL, i only wish i knew were ot start, i have no idea... im only good at managment Mad
This could be a verry painfull learning experiance...

Getting someone to do it for you for free will not happen. Smile
