Ads & Spy

In less than an hour and half, my cousin(autistic) loaded an insane amount of spyware and adware onto this laptop. I'm pissed b/c I use this laptop for school and if I can't get the crap...*kills another ad*..see what I mean?!?! But, yeah, if I can't get this stuff off and have to wait 30 minutes for the damn thing to load up and 10 minutes for proggies to load, then I'll commit a hate crime!

Does anyone know any proggies that I could use that would take care of this? I had adaware and spybot but they were ineffective. Anything better? Also, what kind of anit-virus should I use? Trend Micro isn't cutting it either. And when I say there is an insane amount, I mean it's like the entire state of Rhode Island is on my laptop!

Well... I seem to remember Giant AntiSpyware being an excellent program, but it appears it's now been aquired by Microsoft. So you could try the beta but... I'd get an opinion from someone who's actually tried it already, sorry mate.

try ewido, its never failed me, you can get it at http://www.ewido.net under downloads

MS antispyware beta, works wonders for me. Pair it with the free version of AVG (google for it) for a winning combo. Should take care of most of your problems.

Antivirus = Nod32, get the trial version it works for a month, if you like it buy it, if not re download the trial for another month

spyware= spysweeper, its good cause it can remove rootkits too
asquared= for any trojans and what not

and safe mode as was already suggested.

Although i would suggest a complete reinstall

Your best bet is probably just to reformat. Back up anything important and just wipe the thing.

Anyone know how to make an image of the HDD? Does it make it small enough to where it fits on a few cd's? I don't wanna have to use 4546 CD's just to back up me HDD...

Would it be too much work to try to uninstall the culprits individually? If it's not an intolerable amount a bit of research on Google will usually do the trick.

Although I haven't had spyware in years using a Mac.
