Buttons with Movie Clips

I've found some similar circumstances within the forum however nothing quite what I am looking for.

I have a couple of questions. Being a newbie to Flash, I am looking for the best approach to creating animated buttons and displaying flash ads.

Once clicked (OnDown), each button will display an advertisement in a panel to the right of the buttons. Each display will have a similar design affect however it will feature different images specific to the buttons on the left.

Re: the buttons, I have placed a small movie clip (animated icon) in the Over stage of a button that I have created however when I move the mouse off the button, the MC dissappears from the button. I would prefer that it continue throught the full MC and continue to display in a static state. How can I do this?

Re: the ad banners, I'm just looking for an approach to this project. Each ad will have the same effects (line scrolling effects, sounds etc) however each ad will also have unique photos and text content. There are 8 ads in all. Would it be best to create some kind of template?
