U cant compare directly intel with amd because with amd they use a performance indexing system which claims despite their chips dont run at the actual specified speed they do run faster than the intel equivalent. Thois is backed up by lot of tests on the internet have proved that amd does run faster. I suggest u have a look at a few tests.

I would just look at some benchmarks at a place like Anandtech and see what's in my price range.

Myself, at this point in time I'd go with either the Athlon 64 3500+ Venice core or the Athlon 64 3800+ Venice Core. But thats just me. And as Sykil said, read benchmarks before you make your final decision.

In my opinion if u gonna get my faster machine u might as well get one thats gonna last u a few years. The majority of us would do this instead of upgrading everytime something new comes out. But the processor samurai zero suggests is more than enough for most of us. It's even faster than mine. Sad And they are fast processors the athlon 64s. Also a very good thing is u can keep the software u have now as it's backwards compatible with 32bit software.

I would recommend that u use 64bit software if u can.
