How can I do this death metal text effect?

How can I do a text effect like that? Would it be possible to do it in illustrator as a vector so that I can easily resize it? Or would I have to do it in photoshop?

lets seee... hmm... you could get a text and type something then give it a white color with a black stroke...

but obviously, this wasn't a font, it was the pen tool. and no you wouldn't need illustrator
