External Enclosure
I'm thinking of getting an external enclosure.
So I search 'em up on Newegg and find some 3.5" enclosures with SATA for internal interface. I'm looking at them and most of them have SATA for external interface also.
Now I'm thinking "how do you connect it to the computer, then?" Wouldn't it need to be USB or Firewire?

well, this particular one, (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817155903), comes with a pci slot adapter for the mobo's header. but i think they expect you to have an external SATA pci card?

Well, I was thinking of getting one for my laptop instead of getting a normal external hard drive (I thought it would be a fun experience to do it, but whatever).
So maybe I need to get some kind of sata to usb cable? (Is that even possible?)
If I have to go with an external hd then i think i'll go with this:

unless somebody can refer me to a better one...

?
i think all those have usb 2.0 as the external interface. they have ones with firewire, and ones with SATA as the internal interface. just go to the external enclosures main page and put in what you want in teh dropdown menus
