choosing a soundcard
hi there, my brother's birthday is coming up and i wanted to get him a new sound card, as he does a lot of music mixing and simply music listening through his computer. right now, he has a basic on-board sound card, nothing special, the 3 jacks (green, red, blue). now, when it comes to soundcards, as i have never needed anything better than the one on my motherboard, i need some help choosing one. i don't believe that he needs any other jacks, but better quality sound would be better. does anyone have any suggestions on what sound card to get?
thanks

Well I love my Sound Blaster 2 Audigy ZS personally. There is also the Sound Blaster Audigy 4/Pro. A nice set of speakers is prefered though. ^_^

I think SoundBlaster cards are your only choice - others aren't even comparable. I also have a SoundBlaster 2 Audigy 2 ZS, and I haven't had a single problem with it at all. Amazing quality to my speakers, its really great.
The quality of your speakers is also important (obviously). I really love my Altec Lansing speakers (unsure of model, its not on their site anymore, so I can't help you too much with this). If you are able to snag a couple of Klipsch speakers though (they are a bit more expensive than most), they are superb to anything I've heard from any other speaker.
