Photo Frame effect- need help!

Hi, I am a newbie and this is my first post here. I need some help with a Photo Frame effect I have seen on some web sites. I wish to create a similar effect for my own images. Can someone help me with this. I wld really appreciate it.

First off, are you wanting a frame around the attachment picture, or a frame like the one in the attachment?

I'm going to assume you want a frame like the one in the picture.

The way I would do that would be to just drag out a black rounded rectangle from one corner of your image to another, on a new layer. Select your rectangle by Ctrl+Clicking the rectangle layer. Select/Modify/Contract by about 5px or so. The just hit delete to clear out the middle.

That's a nice simple way of doing it, even though there are a few other ways as well.

I included an attachment which shows this same effect I did in a matter of seconds.

and you can use brushes and the smudge tool possibly to get that odd dropshadow under the frame

THANKS, eighty six and coolaid. If you see my attached pic, the frame is not smooth, is a bit unfinished, raw, sort of rustic (if that is the right word). I will try it the way you have said, first with the rectangle and then will try to smudge it , hope it comes out OK. Perhaps there is some Photo framing software that can do this easily, if only I knew which one.
