Do you guys vector every strand of hair?
i've always wondered about this, to you veteran at vectoring, do you guys actually vector every single strand? or is there any easier way i can do it in illustrator? i've been vectoring for quite awhile but i get frustrated in vectoring the hair. so how do you guys do it?

I don't vector myself, but my gf does. They do indeed vector anything from either a clump of hair to each individual strand. She's shown me some amazing vectors that people spent weeks on.

It all depends on the style, there's no "only way" to do it. It can be as complex as having every single strand or as simple as using just one shape covering all of them.

not really necessary. a kewl way is to create several strands of hair, by drawing them, either by vector or by brush stroke, convert them to brushes, and use them collectively to create the style you seek.
here is an example by CandiKis http://www.candeekis.com/koshini/tubes.html
