Well I love my Altec Lansing's, which you can find here. They're not the most powerful speakers in the world, but the sound quality is great.

I've got some creative soundlabs 5.1, no idea which model tho, 5 sats and a sub/amp unit, works well, sats are very powerful (never been above 50% vol, as you can hear it outside at that level, and feel the bass on the other side of the house).

There are some good speakers out there that manufacturers have that can work on both a tv and pc. I remember klipsch being like the top of the line whenever I was looking for speakers a couple years ago. I ended up getting a creative labs cambridge something for $200 (500 watts total power and pretty good quality). Logitech makes some sweet speakers with a nice little wired control thing with a little screen and nice layout and such, but not too much power and expensive. Sometimes you can save money by getting something like 2.1 but with good quality instead of some 5.1-7.1 speakers that sound bad or aren't powerful at all.

Creative GigaWorks ProGamer G500..... expensive but worth the money

i have a friend that has this set home..... some quallity sound come out of it, i have a home cinema set from +-2000 Euro but his speakers are almost that good then my expensive set. and dont buy Logitech they sound bad compared to Creative speakers. if you dont have that much money the Creative Inspire T5900 is still a good alternative.
there are also some reviews on the web that compare different speakers.

the best is to hear it yourself in a store.
