Come and Join Us on IRC!
This is simply me speaking here, but I would love it if a bunch of you would join us on IRC. I know it may frighten some of you at first, but think about the positives: all the inside IRC jokes would make sense to you, you would grow closer to your community, and you could have a good time doing it.
Connecting is simple! To connect, simply download a client ( http://mirc.com/ and http://xchat.org/ are two popular ones). Then, type "/server irc.neverside.net" (without the quotes).
Once you're connected to the server and you recieve the MOTD, type "/join #central" (again, without the quotes), and you're on your way to having to quit smoking to spend more time on IRC!
We average 40 members on IRC at any given time, and with as many active members as we have, it's almost depressing. This is just my call to Neversidians to go ahead and connect to IRC, you won't regret it. Make sure to use your Neverside nickname, so we know who we're talking to :D

while I go on IRC occasionally and do enjoy it, I'll admit to still being confused by some of the names there, which aren't the ones used on the forums. Also, lots of people know each others' first names and half the time I have no idea who they are talking about. Just from a mostly-outsider's perspective, that makes me switch off rather. It's quite cute to watch, but I don't have the time to become a full-blooded regular and actually become a part of it, so it can get a bit boring. That's kind of the nature of IRC I think, a bit more all-or-nothing than forums. I suspect this might apply to more than just me. Then again I may be odd.
What do other people think?

Indeed, we just have the same people everyday with an occasional new user. Considering how many active users we have hear, it'd be nice to see a lot more activity.

Noel is working on the software backend so everyone on IRC will have their Neverside names on IRC, with no possible changes. But yes, it is confusing sometimes, agreed :>

I try and get on the IRC as much as I can, but it isn't much. And, because of recent family problems, I won't be on at all for a few months. :(

Oh come on andustar, you don't recognize my captain pirate locke username on IRC? EVERYONE NOTICES IT!
As James said, the new network will force users to use their names on here. So all is buttercreme with a side of tea w/ scones :D

When entering IRC you can PM me or someone else on staff and we'll guide you around things if we have time, there are no stupid questions. ^_^
We're quite the odd bunch sometimes, #central might not be the place to go if you're looking for a reasonable discussion 24/7 but you can type /list and you will get a list of avilable channels that you can enter. :)
As for the name confusion, everyone on staff use or should use their given name on here already. Just make sure to enter with your Neverside username and others will folow. :)
IRC is quite the place to keep up with what's hapening with Neverside too, you generaly get to know more when you're on our IRC network.

I can't connect,
[02:12] *** Connecting to port 6667 of server irc.neverside.net
[02:12] *** Connection to irc.neverside.net failed (10053).
it's been doing that for a while, not sure why.

Try to use irc.neverside.com instead.
