I don't know about that...
But NASA did have a backup plan incase the shuttle was damaged. Basically what would happen was one of the other shuttles (Atlantis) would go on a rescue mission. They had already planned and trained for such an event.

But the horrible thing about the backup plan is this, all of the shuttles have had the same problems, although this time they didn't explode.

So who the hell would rescue Atlantis when it got up there? Huh?!

But anyways, kinda offtopic but its no wonder their shuttles have flaws in them. What with them being built by the lowest bidder.

Awesome. Watched the re-entry and landing. I think they should continue with the missions, even though NASA is considering grounding everything. I think it would be stupid to do so. The ISS needs more things done to it and so on and so forth.
