Have the option to sort the entries by author, time, title, #votes (if and after it's voted), etc.
Have the holder specify deadline when he creates the contest (with possibility of extension?) and have it close automatically after the deadline. Same for the voting period (if votes are required).
Display all the entries gmail/PM style? Show the entry title, the author and the date and then have it open up to show the entry and some info, and have another button to show the comments for that particular entry.
Still thinking.
Edit:
Oh, and have the holder's comments stick out somehow so you can easily see if the holder commented on your entry without reading all the comments. Or make it an option for the holder, in case he wants to post a comment without it being feedback.
Oh and, I made a mock-up of a non-styled contest.

Please read the quote this time.

The contest area is the old forums reborn with a new luster that improves submitting entries, managing contests and determining winners. It also makes it easier for us to manage contests, get the information we need... you know the boring stuff.
The contest section will allow greater flexibility for the people managing it, as well as the user.
The purpose of this thread to suggest features to improve upon the old method. Unless you have any positive feedback or suggestions, please refrain from posting in this thread.

I really think a "down payment" is required for any approved contest. Many times people get picked for a design, send it, and receive nothing. I also think that it should be reversed for the hosts safety. If a member wins, then they should send everything to a mentor. Whoever does whichever but don't fulfill their end of the agreement, then they should be reported to the proper authorities.
Also, a way to report problems to the mentors of the contest section by a user with anonymity is good. The mentor could then PM the offending user and discuss whatever.
just thoughts.

Crap... didn't know this was an old thread. Don't mind me, I was digging around the homepage reading some old stuff and I replied.

Then we make ourselves liable for all contests in a way. That means we take it upon ourselves to be responsible for the contest winner getting their money and the contest holder getting what they need. We 'could' possibly setup like a payment system handler that the contest winner would upload their stuff, and the only way for the contest holder to retrieve it, is to use the Pay link to finalize the contest. Or if it's another kind of prize or whatever we'd have to find a method to do that.
The problem with taking a down payment is it makes us financially liable for that down payment. Rather pointless to manage and too much overhead. We will have the best fraud prevention system we can think of I assure you.

So, it sounds good then? I'll help you design the way it all works if you want to. We should be able to handle the money transfers. Someone that is very trustworthy should receive the money from the contest holder and have a system where it would automatically be dispensed to the winners account. I'll figure it out and send you an e-mail about it. Sound good?

No, because we're not doing it.
