Punch/Intersect with Illustrator

Is there any tools or tricks in Illustrator that can mimick the punch, union and intersect commands in Freehand. I cant find anything in Illustrator to do this and im sick of switching back and forth from the two apps.

What you need is the Pathfinder palette. It does exactly those, I think a search in Illustrators help would probably have pointed you in the right direction. Just go to Window > Pathfinder (or my Illustrator 10 lists Shift + F9 as a shortcut).
