Code Review & Analysis Policy for Clientside

Neverside has a great community of developers.. both clientside and serverside. Therefore, there is a new policy in Code Reviewing and Analysis being laid down after the recent review of complaints, and concerns expressed to me through e-mail and by staff.

The world of Standards
We have many Clientside developers here who believe in the highest level of standards and W3C compliance.. there are many reasons behind this.

Recently however, anytime someone posts some code to be looked at, it is immediately either brought into an argument over the tables vs div and the css vs the world junk. That is not what this place is for either, unless it is specifically asked for!

The meaning of asking for help
Not every thread asking for help is meant for you woo us all with your standards knowledge... but if the thread asks for it, by all means, go at it. People are still going to develop with tables, why you may ask? Simple, maybe not everyone has the time to learn an alternative way of developing for their own personal website. Maybe, everyone doesn't know how to utilize DIVs and CSS to have tableless designs that work in all browsers, maybe they want to, but not in this version.

Therefore, I am asking for you to exercise the skill of reading.. and I mean reading the post, not the code. People are asking for help on how to solve their problems, so tell them how to solve their problems in the way they ask, if you wish to show them alternative ways that you feel are noteworthy, please suggest them, but do it in a friendly manner.

Read the post, understand the situation, and provide help, and if you wish to offer alternatives, by all means, feel free to.

Progress is made by helping, not by forcing
Therefore, we will help those who ask of it if we choose to post, we will not force our views on what we think should be done. We can however, offer our advice AFTER solving the problem on what would help them, or would be better in the long run. You may only suggest, and not make the member feel less of accomplishing if they don't do it your way.

Members we find violating these, we will go after with the warning system. It is unacceptable for members to be treated as if they do not know or understand how to develop. Everyone isn't born an expert, and most of you still aren't, but you are quite good in what you do, and if you hope to 'attain' being an expert, you need to learn how to convey your point without making everyone feel threatened every time they ask a question for help, and the solution to what they 'already have' is for them to completely change everything, or you're not going to help.. if that's your attitude, do us a favour and cancel your internet service.

You meen semantic code+CSS, not just DIVs. (don't hurt me)

Yeah, I hear ya though Shawn. A solution to their original problem should always be offered first, then smack em with the standards rhetoric.

The problem is that alot of times people will mention the term CSS+DIVs, which is, as riah pointed out, totally wrong. I always feel the urge to tell them, though sometimes I don't have the time to actually help out on the problem. I've already realised that before, so now I'm not posting semantics preachery unless I've got something else to add...

The problem is people not helping, and expressing their views where they're not asked. Whatever your quirks are with what someone is posting, needs to stop is all this pointing out.

Also, it would be great if people could show links, source and even screenshots of their problems any time they can. Many times people find themselves guessing their way to the problem which tends to be ineffective.

This is just a request but it would make things easier around here and it would help those who try to help you.
