My Hosting Layout

So I decided I should make my own hosting layout instead of using that template.. Anyway, It's not done yet, but you can see where I'm going. What do you think?

To be blunt, it's too damn big. No website needs buttons that big. The clour scheme overall is nice, but it's too wide for 800x600 users. You could have fitten that main page's content into an area half that size.

I'll agree with Agatio that it looks like a website that has some microsoft accessability options put in for people with bad eyesight where everything is really oversized. Although, I have to disagree with Agatio's other points. 800X600 is really rare now-a-days and how many people that are going to be looking for webhosting would have there resolution at 800x600? Probably none if they are serious about making a website. Although, I think taking the entire width hasn't been used appropriately and it might look good with a toned down width or something. I actually hate the colors the most out of anything with this layout. I think you need to have a nice color scheme of 2-3 colors instead of one with various shades. Also, it looks kind of depressing because of the choice of a dark background and other dark colors. I also think you should separate the login from the header and have a box or something going around it.

It doesn't look too bad, but I think you need to first get some things I've meantioned fixed and then we can move onto smaller details. Not bad though, but a few big things kind of ruin it for now. Good luck with your hosting venture (is it for your hosting company?).

I am surprised, I kinda like it, because it is so different.

The bar with the buttons needs to be smaller, also think about the contrast if you want to add stock images later, then they will be far too powerful.

Everything else is really good and creative. Fun to look at.

Nice.

Sean: there ya go. I have my res set at 1024x768 and I have to scroll to see the bottom and it just looks too big for me.

Pros:

* I like the color scheme.

* The basics of the layout are very well done.

Cons:

* Too big. Although I like the general layout, I think you made everything way to big. Also, although the majority of web users are now on 1024x768 (about 60%), 800x800 users still represent about 30% of web traffic (of course it's different for every website, but this is a general statistic). Therefore I'd recommened you make your layout compatible with 800x600 users. For me, until such time as Yahoo.com and MSN.com no longer support 800x600 resolutions, all of my websites are going to support 800x600...

* The graphics look very dithered in 16-bit color. Once again, while the majority of web users now have 32-bit color, 16-bit still represents a good percentage. So always take that into consideration. (Gradients can be very difficult to view without dithering in 16-bit, but it is possible if you work at it.)

* Although I think your menu buttons are way to big, regardless, I don't think Flash is needed to do that. A simple rollover would pretty much suffice.

Other Notes:

Although I like the general idea of the layout, it is in my opinion way too "bulky". In order to fix this you'd probably have to start over again, though. If you do, aim towards a fully compatible 800x600 compatible layout. Making a layout look good in 800x600 means it will probably look good in anything above that, but it almost never works the other way around.

On 1792 x 1344, I still find it to be a bit large, and it is way to monochromatic to capture anyone's attention.

i think it needs more work ... take some of the suggestions others have made and go with it. i agree that it's too big/tall/whatever ... i'm on 1024x768 and i have to scroll down to see it all. everything looks the same, meaning, nothing stands out. i have to force myself to look around more carefully to find plans and information.

As said before:
Too darn big, I'm on 1400*1050 and I'm scrolling
The colors blend in too much, doesn't grab attention

Everything is off-centered...
The background changes after about, I dunno, 1000px?
The login and flash nav go to about 950px starting from the left
The list of plans and Welcome to... go for about 800px?

It just looks off that way, make it all stretch the same width or have stuff centered within other stuff... (like say the flash nav so there is as much of the lighter layout on both sides, same for the plans, footer, etc.)

It Needs adjusting...
