It seems like a kind of generic layout. On your recent pic, I think you should maybe change the content to another color that is maybe similar or something because I get the feeling of just too much blue. Maybe dull it and/or add more gray to the shade. I suggest that you maybe get a paper and pencil and write down what you want to have on your website and then categorize where it all should be then begin thinking of what will logically go where on the website and then start to sketch it out on paper and maybe do a few sketches of how it could look and pic the best and make sure its correct and then move on to photoshop. Many people make the mistake of going straight to photoshop and working through their layout as they go. Also, decide separately what your color scheme shall be by going into photoshop and creating a 30 or 40 px by 10 px box and then start doing 10 by 10px squares of different colors and change them around to see what looks best and choose from there. Good luck to you.

It's just how you used them. There is much emptyness as well. The header is blah, make sure to add nice rollovers to the buttons, and something to the sides perhaps.

Kinda boring to look at in general.

Make regards to this post the most. Blue and green will work just fine together. They don't have to be compliments for it to work. There are some really good sites made with blue and green as well as many other tetrad color harmonies. The problem is the design itself and not necessarily the color choices.

This is generally how I work. I find it to be more spontaneous and creative. As long as I map out the priorities of the content, then the rest is all created on the fly.

PolishKid, I already did think out what I want on the layout and where I want to put it. So far, all I have is the header, the nav bar, and the content box. Just because there is nothing inside the content box, that doesn't mean there won't be. Also, there is nothing else that I need to add outside of the content box. Could you give me some specific ideas maybe? I also think you're right about the colors.

jadedchron, you never said what is wrong with the design. I'd appreciate some more specific problems, if you know a few things that could be improved. Thanks.

"jadedchron, you never said what is wrong with the design."

I mentioned the color scheme, which is what you should be focusing on right now. As far as the layout of the components is concerned I'd say the focus is all wrong. You have a white clean line that starts on the bottom of the blue (referring to the first attached image) but disappears near the navigation, which mixes both a sharp effect and a smooth effect w/no real transition -- bad. The green box shouldn't be centered like that if it's going to be by itself. Either stretch it all the way out or add a left sidebar. You added a | to the left of the home on the navigation which really isn't good for the pattern you've set. It'd look much better if you removed it.

I attached a quick sample of how I think green/blue can really pop and bidazzle Shocked

A good thing you could add to the left / right side of the content box would be polls, latest stuff, shoutbox etc. Shocked Wink

It will look better once it's more full. Its just super empty.

Yes, it is pretty empty right now. I think it will look at least decent once I put in my content and stuff.
